    Description

Antique Victorian black jet dangle earrings mourning jewelry. Unsigned. Early 1900s. Solid glossy black jet components with glossy black glass bead accents. The ornamental top section of earrings appear to be carved by hand. Each earring has different design in the carved area; thus, earrings are not exactly alike and were designed this way. Components look like glass, but are light weight. They do not test positive as bakelite. When edge of component is rubbed on unfinished ceramic surface, it leaves a black line, which is what true English jet does. Earrings could also be celluloid, but did not release characteristic scent of burnt hair when touched with hot point. Base metal components have darkened over time. Very good condition. Whether true jet or celluloid, I cannot say 100%, however, I will say with complete certainty that they are rare and fabulous.
